Wood Slats Add Texture and Warmth to These Homes

Nowadays it’s common and also a trend to use wood element in a home. From hardwood floors to custom shelving, there are so many ways to bring the warmth and natural feeling of wood inside. But the homes featured in this blog manage to go above and beyond, highlighting the beauty of natural wood by turning into unique accents through the use of wood slats. While each home uses the slat design in slightly different ways, each time it brings a special, interesting look to the room. Therefore, we’ve been using wood slats in several projects, let’s take a look.

In this project, to hide the awkwardness of the previous layout where the common bathroom was the first space viewed from the second-floor entrance staircase, Ayden designed this wooden slatted hidden door clad with Ash Wood laminates along the dry kitchen wall for aesthetic purpose. These walls not only hideaway the bathroom, but also lead the members or guests to the communal area first.

Similar to the Empire Residence, this is also more than a featured wall for the living room. The main goal was to hide the awkward layout by designing a hidden door with mirror and slatted wood clan with grey laminate to boost the aesthetic. To fully utilise the space, the designer created a new space (dry kitchen) by designing a ‘new functional wall’ with cabinets, sink and hidden door.

If you have a bedroom or a bathroom right off your communal spaces, a slatted screen can serve as a useful visual barrier to block your guests’ views of the more personal spaces in your home. For example, in this room, the material and colours selected definitely elevated the warmth of the entire space. Softer neutral colours were used for floor and a custom-made wardrobe that paired with a floor-to-ceiling wooden slatted divider to create serenity ambience.

In this living room, vertical grooves were added to the backdrop for visual interest. Instead of full-height vertical grooves backdrop, owner prefers combination with different color or texture. Therefore, Ayden incorporated it with plain white laminated with created a visually taller space that balances the length.

Besides offering a practical way to separate different rooms in a home and hideout the awkward layout, slatted wooden walls can also be an artistic way to make a decorative statement. Some options include designing a unique feature wall, replacing traditional banister, or even personalising a one-of-a-kind bedroom headboard design out of the individual pieces.
